The New York Mets faced the Atlanta Braves tonight at Turner Field. This game started with much anticipation on Johan Santana making his third start, but quickly Santana lost control of the game. Lasting just 1.1 innings Santana gave up 6 runs (5 earned) on 4 hits. Tonight Santana struggled to command the zone and when he would throw a strike he would allow a hit. Also the Mets defense made some mistakes that didn’t help Santana get through this outing. This was a step back for Santana, but he has plenty of time to get back on track. This was Santana’s worst outing since 6/14/2009, when he went 3 innings against the Yankees at Yankee Stadium. This was a horrible outing for Santana, but the Mets have to keep going on and not dwell on this lost.
The Mets offense was quite tonight, but they were able to get three runs on RBI’s by Josh Thole, Mike Baxter, and Daniel Murphy. This was a very dry game after Santana allowed all of the runs. This was a game that the Mets need to forget because collectively the energy was never their.
Miguel Batista pitched 1.2 innings walking just 1 batter and striking out 2. Also Manny Acosta pitched 3 innings of relief tonight allowing a homerun and 3 hits. The Bullpen pitched well tonight, but the bad start by Santana really cost the Mets at winning this game. The Mets will play the third game of the series tomorrow afternoon before they return home to face the Giants.
