The New York Mets faced the Washington Nationals tonight at Citi Field. The Mets were looking for their fifth win tonight, but came up short on that goal. The Mets started Dillon Gee and the night started rough for him as he allowed a leadoff homerun to Ian Desmond. Gee struggled at times tonight and struggled to command the strike zone. Gee went 5.1 innings allowing 4 runs on 8 hits. This was a very bad performance by Gee, but he has plenty of time get back on track.
The offense for the Mets was held down for the most part tonight. They had opportunities, but were unable to get many runs tonight. The Mets did get an RBI single from Justin Turner and an RBI double from Ronny Cedeno. But those were the only runs of the game. And for the first time this season the Mets have lost their first game of the season. They will try to get the series win with a win tomorrow afternoon against the Nationals again.
Jason Bay had a double as he went 1 of 4 with two strikeouts. Right now Bay is struggling and it seems as if he will never be the hitter the Mets imagined when they signed him two years ago. This season Bay has to focus harder on trying to get hits and then work on getting the homerun.
