Mets get past the Marlins 5-1

The New York Mets were looking to beat the Miami Marlins in consecutive nights in tonight’s game. The Mets started R.A. Dickey tonight and he pitched a very good game. Dickey went 7.0 innings tonight allowing one run on 3 hits. He also struck out 7 batters in his time on the field. His only mistake came in the 5th inning when he served up a homerun. Dickey really had a great knuckleball tonight and threw it with consistency. This was an excellent start by him and the Mets offense was able to support him after he allowed the homerun.

In the sixth inning David Wright hit a two-run homerun to give the Mets their first lead of the night. And with that homerun David Wright passed Darryl Strawberry on the all-time Mets RBI’s list. That was a nice moment to watch as Wright continues to get first in the Mets record books. The Mets added another run on a Lucas Duda RBI single. Then to make matters even better Mike Baxter knocked in two more runs on an two-run double. The Mets led 5-1 going into the ninth inning.

The Mets had nice efforts from Jon Rauch and Bobby Parnell who pitched a combined inning of relief. In that inning there was only one hit allowed and that hit came off Rauch. Tim Byrdak came in to pitch and allowed a hit and was taken out. Manny Acosta came in to close the inning out that ended the game. The Mets pitching was really good tonight. And it was nice to see the offense finally get the pitching staff some runs. The Mets won this game 5-1.
