The New York Mets took on the Philadelphia Phillies today at Citizens Bank Park. For the third straight game the Mets took the lead in the first inning. Ike Davis hit a two run homerun to open the day and the Mets were looking as if they were going to win this game.
Mike Pelfrey started for the Mets looking to get his first win of the season. Pelfrey had a very nice outing as he induced 13 groundball outs today. He went 6.0 innings allowing a run on 8 hits. Today Pelfrey used his curveball that he was able to get over for strikes that also became the ball to record groundouts. This was a performance that Pelfrey could build on for his next start. As the season goes on the Mets will need Pelfrey to continue to pitch well and give the team a chance to win the game.
In the eighth inning the Phillies took the lead on 4 runs in that inning. This was a very unpleasant lost for the Mets, but they can still walk away with their heads up knowing they won the series. The Mets will travel to Atlanta to take on the Braves tomorrow night.
The bullpen gave up 7 runs today in what was possibly their worst outing of the season.
