The New York Mets will play their second game of the season today as they face the Braves at Citi Field. In their first game the Mets were able to pull out a 1-0 win in Johan Santana’s first game back. Today the Mets will have to play hard again in hopes of getting another win.
R.A. Dickey is the pitcher on the mound for the Mets this afternoon. Dickey is coming off a very up and down season, but this season Dickey is looking to take the next step this season and today would be a nice game to take that step. Last season Dickey had a 8-13 record. This year the Mets are hoping that Dickey can get more wins rather than losses. Today Dickey just needs to come out and pitch the way he can and put the Mets in position to win the game.
The Mets will have a new leadoff hitter in Ruben Tejada today. After placing Andres Torres on the disabled list, the Mets are hoping Tejada can be a spark to start the game. Kirk Nieuwenhuis was called up to be the back up center fielder, but the Mets may use him and Scott Hairston in a platoon situation. Today the Mets will start Nieuwenhuis in center field and he will bat in the eighth spot.
Today’s game will be one the Mets will want because a win today will ensure them the series win. David Wright looked locked in at the plate Thursday afternoon. It will be very interesting to see what Wright can do today against Jair Jurrjens. In 31 plate appearances Wright has been able to get just 6 hits off of him. Today Wright has to just stay relaxed and hopes that Jurrjens gives him a pitch to hit.
Citi Field will likely be packed again today, hopefully the Mets can get another home win. This game will be televised on SNY and can be heard on WFAN 660. Let’s go Mets!
