The New York Mets will take on the Houston Astros tonight at Minute Maid Park. The Mets are coming off a series win against the Colorado Rockies. The Mets lost the first game of that series, but were able to get the last two games. The Mets have played well considering some injuries to key players. This team has improved on so many levels this year and that improvement should keep this team on the right track.
R.A. Dickey will pitch for the Mets tonight as he goes for his fourth win. Dickey has pitched well this season despite having one really bad start. Tonight Dickey will be pitching in a place where he hasn’t won. In two games against the Astros Dickey has allowed 8 runs and has given up 3 homeruns. This is a start that Dickey wants to perform well simply because he has to give his team the best chance to win.
The Mets offense has performed really well despite bad pitching from the bullpen. In the last three games the Mets have scored over 5 runs. Tonight they will need to be productive on the offense and get Dickey run support early in the game. One offensive player that has taken advantage of his opportunity has been Kirk Nieuwenhuis. He is batting as the leadoff hitter and he is proving that he could be the team’s leadoff hitter. This season Nieuwenhuis is batting .316 and is providing the Mets with an excellent opportunity to drive him home. Tonight Nieuwenhuis will play left field as Andres Torres returns from the disabled list.
This game will be televised on SNY at 8:05 PM and will be on radio station WFAN 660 AM. The Mets will try to get another series win starting tonight and will do so against an improved Astros team. Let’s go Mets!
