The New York Mets will face the Philadelphia Phillies this afternoon at Citizens Bank Park. The Mets are coming off two straight wins over the Phillies and a win today will give them the series sweep. Overall the Mets have won three straight games and if they win today will tie their season high four straight wins.
Getting the start for the Mets is Mike Pelfrey who is coming off a no decision after allowing 3 runs. Today Pelfrey has to limit the hits and keep the ball down in the zone otherwise the Phillies will get a slew of hits off him. In his last start Pelfrey gave up 10 hits. In this start Pelfrey can not give up lots of hits. He has to stay sharp and command the zone. Coming into the season Pelfrey was really the only question mark in the starting rotation. The key for Pelfrey is to make smart pitches and have command of his splitter. If Pelfrey can keep the Phillies from reaching base the Mets offense could possibly get him some run support.
David Wright returned yesterday and he put on a show. Wright crushed the first pitch he saw and put the Mets out to a 1-0 lead. Wright went 3 for 5 in yesterday’s contest. Today Wright will have to continue to hit the ball well and try to get the team out to a great start. So far in this series the Mets have been able to take an early lead in the first inning and have been able to win the game.
Yesterday Lucas Duda also had a homerun, which snapped a 0 for 13 stretch. Today Duda will be out of the lineup, but the rest of the Mets hitters will have to face a very good left handed pitcher in Cole Hamels. They will have hit for contact early to avoid any strikeouts. This game will be televised on SNY at 1:35 PM and can be listened to on WFAN 660 AM. Let’s go Mets!
