Pre-Game: Mets vs. Phillies 4:05 PM

The New York Mets will face off against the Philadelphia Phillies this afternoon at Citizens Bank Park. The Mets are coming off a win against the Phillies in which they were able to get four runs off of Cliff Lee. In that game the Mets came out early and put themselves in position to win from the 1st inning. Tonight they will have to do the same thing again if they want to win.

Tonight the Mets will send Jon Niese to the mound after his stellar outing against the Braves on Sunday. Niese held the Braves down with his excellent command and smart pitch selection. After his seven strikeout performance Niese is looking to build upon that today against the Phillies. Niese has pitched very well to start the season and all signs are pointing to a great year for him. Today Niese has to keep the Phillies off base and use all of his pitches to keep the hitters off balance. This is a start Niese has to continue to show growth and keep proving that he is a very good starting pitcher.

Jason Bay started hitting yesterday as he knocked in a two run homerun in the first inning. Bay swung the bat really well in that at bat. This is the type of player Bay is, but since his signing hasn’t lived up to his contract. Today look for Bay to hit the ball hard. That homerun hopefully will give him some confidence to keep swinging the bat hard and fast.

David Wright is back in the lineup after missing three games with a fractured pinky. This is a surprise because yesterday Wright’s finger was still swollen. But during this mornings batting practice Wright was able to hold and swing the bat.

This game will be on SNY at 4:05 PM as the Mets will try to get their second consecutive win. As the game goes on today the Mets have to collect a plethora of hits and keep the Phillies from having quick innings. This game will come down to pitching and right now the Mets as a team are pitching very well. Let’s go Mets!
