Rockies destroy Mets 18-9

The New York Mets were utterly destroyed tonight as they lost to the Colorado Rockies 18-9.

The Mets had a very nice 5th inning in which they scored 4 runs on four hits. But that wouldn’t matter because the Rockies would score 13 runs. The Mets in that inning allowed 12 hits and 5 errors. That was the worst inning for the Mets this season. Games like tonight can really destroy a bullpen as the Mets went through five bullpen pitchers. This was a very tough game to watch because the pitching was so poor. Collectively the Mets pitchers stunk tonight. They can not pitch this poor again because this can really impact a team for a while. Not only was the pitching terrible, but the defense was just as poor. Collectively the Mets gave up 9 unearned runs tonight. That is half of the runs tonight and that is unacceptable. This team needs to get their act together and comeback and take the next two games of this series.

Scott Hairston had a phenomenal game tonight as he hit for the cycle. This was the first cycle for the Mets since 2006 when Jose Reyes did it. Hairston also became the 10th Met to hit for the cycle in the team’s history. This was a nice performance for him in what was a terrible game for the pitching staff. Ruben Tejada had a four hit game tonight, his second of the season. Tejada came into the game struggling, but tonight he really saw the ball well and made nice contact for base hits.

The Mets did score 9 runs tonight, but that was not enough in what was a lousy pitching performance by the team. The Mets will continue the series tomorrow where Dillon Gee will start. Tonight Chris Schwinden started and these pitchers followed: Manny Acosta, Miguel Batista, Ramon Ramirez, Bobby Parnell, and Tim Byrdak. This lost tonight ended the Mets three game winning streak.
