- David Wright continues his hot season as he went 2 for 2. Wright is now hitting .408 on the season which leads the league. Wright was pulled from the game in the 7th inning and had a very emotional exchange with manager Terry Collins. Wright did seem to smooth things over with Collins later in the game.
- Dillon Gee really struggled tonight as he allowed 7 runs on 8 hits tonight. Gee was solid early in the game, but gave up two huge homeruns that ended his night early. Gee went 5.1 innings and threw 81 pitches.
- D.J. Carrasco was ejected from the game after he hit Ryan Braun with a pitch after he allowed a homerun to Ricky Weeks.
- Ramon Ramirez had a solid night out of the bullpen tonight. In his 2.2 innings of work Ramirez struck out 5 batters. This was a very nice effort from Ramirez who is providing the Mets with excellent relief pitching.
- As a team the Mets only had 6 hits tonight and never were able to score a run.
In the post game press conference Terry Collins told reporters that he took Wright out to protect him from getting hit. Collins said “If they’re going to retaliate, they’re going to hit David Wright.” This was a very honest press conference by Terry Collins tonight. This was a very nice gesture to clear the air.
WP: Zack Greinke (4-1)
