Mets bullpen collapses; Phillies win 10-6

The New York Mets really had a nice opportunity to get a win tonight, but the bullpen gave up the lead. This was the second game that the bullpen blew the game for the Mets in this series. Bobby Parnell, Jon Rauch, Tim Byrdak, Ramon Ramirez and Chris Schwinden all gave up runs in relief. That resulted in eight runs for the Phillies and that really told the story of the entire night. Dillon Gee pitched very good tonight as he went 6.2 innings allowing just two runs on six hits. Gee was able to work into and out of trouble much of the night, but overall had a very successful outing.

The offense for the Mets played a role in this game before the bullpen imploded. Lucas Duda hit a two run homerun that at the time put the Mets up 3-1. That homerun was his first off a left-handed pitcher and it came at a nice time. Other than that the Mets really never could get any timely hits. Duda would add another homerun in the 9th inning that would bring the Mets slightly closer with a 10-4 score. This game tonight really was a depressing in that the bullpen struggles continue and everyone who pitched out of the pen gave up at least a run. The Mets will now have an off day tomorrow before starting a four game series against the Cardinals. Tonight the Mets lost 10-6 in a very terrible way. The bright side is that Duda had two homers and that could be a great momentum builder for him.
