Mets defeat Brewers 3-1

The New York Mets defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 3-1 tonight at Citi Field. The Mets struggled on the offensive end, but were able to get hits late in the game that really gave them the game. Daniel Murphy started the scoring for the Mets as he singled in Kirk Nieuwenhuis from third base. The score would remain 1-0 for most of the game before the Mets added another in the 6th inning on a Ronny Cedeno sacrifice bunt. Tonight the Mets really took advantage of the Brewers and were able to get the win. The run that really came into play for the Mets came in the 8th inning. Aramis Ramirez made a critical error as he dropped the ball in a run down play that allowed David Wright to score from third base. That mistake really gave the Mets the proper cushion to win the game.

David Wright continues to lead this team on both sides of the field. Tonight he really led by example as he went 1 for 3 with a double and a walk. Wright now has a .398 batting average after coming into the night hitting .400. He had a very spectacular play at third base tonight. His defense has really been very good this season and has really helped the Mets get through innings.

Frank Francisco pitched the ninth inning despite his recent struggles. Francisco would get the save, but he really struggled to get three outs. In that inning Francisco allowed two hits and a run, but was able to get a strikeout and a fly-out to end the game. The Mets were really lucky tonight to get the win, but a win is a win. Miguel Batista received the win after pitching seven shutout innings and allowing just four hits. He really came up big for the Mets tonight and really pitched well. Starts like the one Batista gave tonight really can preserve the bullpen. The Mets won this game with mental toughness and a little bit of luck.

WP: Miguel Batista (1-1)

LP: Yovani Gallardo (2-4)

SV: Frank Francisco (9)
