The New York Mets had an excellent pitching performance by R.A. Dickey today. Dickey went the 8.0 innings today and really dominated the Diamondbacks. Dickey allowed just on run on four hits today and struck out four batters. This was a very dominant performance by the veteran knuckleball pitcher. This was by far his best performance simply because he was able to command the strike zone with the knuckleball. This was one of the best performances that Dickey has had in a Mets uniform. Dickey didn’t allow a run until the ninth inning when he served up a RBI double to Justin Upton.
The Mets offense came out looking to get some early support for R.A. Dickey. Daniel Murphy drove in the first two runs for the Mets as he drove home two on a two-run single. That gave the Mets an early 2-0 lead after the first inning. Then in the 4th inning Josh Thole singled home a run. The Mets were up 3-0 for most of the game until the Diamondbacks cut into that lead as they scrapped across a run in the 9th inning.
Tim Byrdak came in and recorded the first out of the inning. Then Frank Francisco came in and recorded the final two outs that closed out the ninth inning and gave the Mets their second win in a row. This was the 7th save of the season for Francisco and Dickey recorded his fourth win of the season.
