Tonight the New York Mets really played well and were able to support an nice game by their pitcher. The Mets trailed after the first inning, but in the second inning Lucas Duda tied the game with a solo homerun. Another notable score was Ike Davis’ two run single that broke the game open 6-1. Davis has finally showed signs of coming out of his season slump over the last couple of games. Once his bat heats up the Mets will really be a much better offensive team.
Dillon Gee started tonight and he really powered through this outing. Lasting seven innings and allowing just one run, Gee showed that he is starting to get back to pitching well. This was a very nice performance by Gee which can only help this team. Gee also had 9 strikeouts in this game and really commanded the strike zone. As the season goes on it will be very important for Gee to get the job done every time he has to pitch. This season hasn’t been good to Gee, but his last couple of starts Gee is starting to prove that he can start to win again.
Tim Byrdak and Ramon Ramirez both pitched a scoreless and hitless inning of relief tonight. This game really was won by the excellent combination of pitching and hitting. This series is now tied 1-1 with two games to go. The next game will be tomorrow afternoon starting at 1:10 PM.
