Mets defeat Phillies 6-3

Tonight the New York Mets played a very nice game as they defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 6-3. The play of Omar Quintanilla can not go unnoticed tonight. Quintanilla went 3 for 4 with two doubles and two runs scored. His play was very important for the Mets tonight simply because he was able to get on base to create runs. Another star tonight was Jeremy Hefner, who picked up his very first win at the major league level. Hefner went six innings allowing three runs on six hits in six innings pitched tonight. Hefner also picked up his first hit at the major league level, a homerun that gave the Mets a two run lead at the time. This performance by Hefner really showed that he could be effective at the major league level. Hefner gave up a homerun, but was able to settle down and keep his team in the game.

Scott Hairston had a pinch-hit two-run homerun that would give the Mets a three run lead. The Mets would be delayed by rain, but did return to finish the game. Frank Francisco would pick up the final outs and convert his 14th save of the season. The Mets would win this game 6-3 and now have a chance to take the series tomorrow at Citi Field.
