Mets defeat Phillies 7-4

The New York Mets were looking for their fourth win in a row tonight as they faced the Philadelphia Phillies. This game was very intense for the Mets simply because they fell behind by four runs and it seemed that coming back was impossible. But the Mets started to cut into the lead in the 4th inning when Daniel Murphy drove in a run on a RBI single. Then in the 7th inning the Mets drove in 4 runs on two outs to take the lead over the Phillies. Lucas Duda had the go ahead single which proved to be the winning hit.

And then in the 9th inning the Mets added two runs. The Mets were able to comeback for the 10th time this season and get the win. This comeback ties the Mets with the Braves for the most comebacks this season. Manny Acosta received the win and Jon Rauch picked up his first save as a Met. The Mets continue to win and now have the opportunity to sweep the Phillies tomorrow night.

Miguel Batista started for the Mets and struggled early on. He allowed four runs in the first two innings that really put the Mets behind early. But the team was able to get him off the hook and keep him from receiving the loss. Batista went 5.1 innings allowing 4 runs on 8 hits. He did settle in towards the end of his outing and really survived even after struggling to start the night.

Offensively the 1-4 hitters all had two hits tonight. Those hits also resulted in 5 runs and 5 RBI’s. All of the runs tonight came from the top of the order and that will always have positive effects on a team. This was a nice hard fought win for the Mets and they are now 17-13 on the season and continue to move up in the division standings. As the season goes on wins like this can always be momentum builders for a team. The Mets win tonight 7-4 as they continue to show that they are a team that will not give up.
