The New York Mets played a very nice game today at PNC Park. The Mets were able to lead the entire game and only at one point did they feel that the game could go the opposite direction. Jon Niese really did a nice job today in eating innings. Niese went 7.1 innings before exiting leaving two runners on first and second base. Niese allowed just one run on five hits with five strikeouts in his nice outing. This was a very impressive start for Niese considering his last start against the Blue Jays. He was able to come out and deliver for the Mets and limited the Pirates ability to have any big innings. He also did a nice job in commanding the strike zone and commanding his pitches. Overall this start is one that Niese can really build upon.
The Mets offense looked much better today despite the lack of runs. But they were able to get runs when they had to and won the game because of that. David Wright went 1 for 4 with a RBI double and a strikeout. Wright now has an average of .399 and is consistently hitting for this team. Kirk Nieuwenhuis went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. The Mets won today 3-1 defeating the Pirates for the second straight day.
