The New York Mets were able to defeat the Pittsburgh Pirates tonight 3-2 on the strength of excellent pitching. R.A. Dickey was lights out tonight as he struck out 11 batters, tying a career high. Dickey went seven innings allowing one run on five hits. This was a very nice effort from Dickey tonight, who could have gone further, but Terry Collins took him out for a pinch hitter in the 8th inning. The offense for the Mets came through when they had to and were able to get the job done. David Wright didn’t have a nice offensive game tonight as he went 0 for 4 with three strikeouts. Wright saw his average dip to .403 after having an average of .415 coming into the night. This was a very tight game the entire night, but the Mets were able to get the job done. Jon Rauch gave up a run, but Tim Byrdak came in to close out the inning and the Mets left that inning leading by one run. Frank Francisco had a very rare 1-2-3 9th inning tonight to earn his 11th save of the season.
WP: R.A. Dickey (6-1)
LP: Juan Cruz (1-1)
SV: Frank Francisco (11)
