The New York Mets suffered their second straight loss to the Houston Astros tonight. The Mets started Jon Niese and tonight was not his night. Niese went 3.0 innings allowing 6 hits on 5 runs. Niese also gave up two homeruns and walked two batters. His velocity was down and many of his pitches didn’t have any movement. Most notably Niese was never able to get into a groove and couldn’t get outs which caused him to be taken out early.
The offense for the Mets had opportunities, but really couldn’t get the big hit to get the lead. They did get RBI singles from Andres Torres, Josh Thole, and Scott Hairston, but they were still down 6-3. The Mets did hit into two double plays tonight and that will always end any chance to score runs.
The Mets bullpen gave up just one run tonight. Miguel Batista, Ramon Ramirez, and Jon Rauch all pitched out of the bullpen tonight. The bullpen gave up 4 hits and 6 walks. Jon Niese was pinned with his first loss of the season while J.A. Happ received the win for the Astros.
