Mets fall to Blue Jays 14-5

The New York Mets were destroyed by the Blue Jays to start inter-league play. Jon Niese clearly had his worst start tonight as he allowed 8 runs on four homeruns. This was a tough performance to watch simply because Niese really couldn’t get make pitches to command the zone. Niese made mistakes all night and resulted in a three inning outing. The Mets were forced to use their bullpen early and that was a terrible thing. Manny Acosta really struggled in his outing and could be possibly sent down by tomorrow. Acosta gave up five runs tonight on two hits and four walks. His performance really speaks to the struggles that he has had all season.

From that point on the Mets were able to limit the amount of runs to just one run. Ramon Ramirez, Robert Carson, and catcher Rob Johnson all pitched an inning tonight. Johnson really surprised everyone with his excellent control and ability to throw secondary pitches. He didn’t give up anything and was able to record a strikeout. His performance really should put members of the bullpen to shame simply because he did a great job. This game tonight was very disappointing, but the Mets can come out tomorrow and really change the outlook of this road trip.

  • Scott Hairston had a three-run homerun in the 8th inning.
  • David Wright went 1 for 3 and was taken out early because of a cold. Wright will not play tomorrow because of a scheduled rest day.
