Mets fall to Blue Jays 2-0

The New York Mets faced their toughest pitcher of the season in Brandon Morrow. He was able to shut the Mets offense down and late in the game had some help with a blown call by the second base umpire. Morrow went nine innings not allowing a run and earned a complete game shutout. The Mets were held to only three hits today and struck out 8 times. The Mets were simply overmatched and never could clump together any hits. The argument could be made that the Mets could have won this game if not for the blown call, but the Mets couldn’t make plays all game long to win.

This loss really hurts because they had excellent pitching, but just couldn’t get any runs. Jeremy Hefner really pitched well when he came in for Miguel Batista who left the game with lower back discomfort. Hefner worked five innings and allowed just two runs. Hefner also had five strikeouts and really looked solid in commanding the strike zone. The Mets were able to get through this game even though Batista gave the team just two innings.

The Mets will continue their series tomorrow with the Blue Jays and will have to play better to avoid the sweep.
