The New York Mets defeated the San Diego Padres today in a very well pitched game. The Mets scored two runs today and they were able to still get the win. R.A. Dickey was spectacular today and really pitched one of his best games. Dickey had his knuckleball moving all over the place today and that resulted in 10 strikeouts. Dickey went 7.1 innings today before Tim Byrdak came in and got two outs to end the seventh inning. The game was closed out by Frank Francisco who notched his 13th save of the season.
The offense was held down for the most part, but the Mets were still able to get the job done. The importance of this win will keep the Mets alive to try to gain games on the division leaders. The Mets won today because their pitching was spectacular. The Mets now have back-to-back shutouts and are winning games again. With the Phillies coming to town tomorrow the Mets will have the opportunity to move further up the division standings. David Wright went hitless for the third consecutive game and he is in a rare slump this season. The Mets will play the Phillies tomorrow at Citi Field.
WP: R.A. Dickey (7-1)
LP: Edinson Volquez (2-5)
