The New York Mets took on the Miami Marlins tonight to start a three game series. This game was in the Mets grasp, but they were unable to hold off the Marlins to get the win. Frank Francisco allowed three hits in the ninth inning resulting in two runs that would end the game. Francisco gave up a RBI single to Greg Dobbs that resulted in a win fro the Marlins. Francisco blew his second save of the season tonight.
The Mets received an overall nice start from Johan Santana. He went six innings tonight allowing three runs on six hits. Those runs all came in the first inning when Santana really struggled to record outs. But once that inning past Santana was really good. He went on to strikeout seven batters tonight as he really dominated the Marlin hitters. This start really gave the Mets a chance to comeback and try to get the win.
Offensively the Mets were able to comeback and make this a game. Ike Davis started the comeback with a solo homerun in the 5th inning that bought the Mets within two runs of tying the game. The Mets would then tie the game on a double by Mike Nickeas and a double by Kirk Nieuwenhuis. The Mets were on fire in that inning and it wouldn’t end there. Mike Baxter came on as a pinch hitter and would hit a two-run double to give the Mets their first lead of the game. The Mets finally had a two run lead and everything seemed perfect.
But in the 8th inning Ike Davis would make an error that would later cost the Mets a run. Heading into the ninth inning the Mets lead by one run. The Mets couldn’t hold on and lost the game in walk-off fashion. This was a hard ending for the Mets, but they can comeback tomorrow and have to rebound from this loss. Heath Bell received the win and Frank Francisco received the loss.
