The New York Mets faced the Philadelphia Phillies tonight at Citizens Bank Park. This would be a good night for the Mets as they would win by the final of 10-5. This win also gave the Mets their first sweep of the Phillies in Philadelphia since 2006. This was a great game by the Mets who continue to win after trailing in games. Tonight the Mets trailed by two runs, but were able to comeback and get the win for their 11th comeback on the season.
Dillon Gee started for the Mets and really struggled to limit the amount of hits. Gee went 5.2 innings allowing 4 runs on 10 hits. This wasn’t the best performance by Gee, but he did keep the team in the game to allow the comeback. Gee had 4 strikeouts and those really helped out to end innings.
The offense for the Mets really came alive once Cliff Lee came out of the game. The Mets scored at least one run in the final four innings and those runs really came into play late into the game. Ike Davis hit his fourth homerun in the 7th inning that really broke the game open at the time. That homerun knocked in three runs and at the time had the Mets up 9-4. Andres Torres also hit his first homerun of the season in the 9th inning that gave the Mets a 10-5 lead at the time.
Tonight the offense was much more productive as they had 12 hits. This effort improved the Mets record to 18-13. They continue to win games and are really picking up the pitching while they struggle. This collective win tonight can really help the team continue to build momentum. The Mets will now continue their road trip as they travel to Miami to take on the Marlins on Friday night.
