Tough night at Citi Field for the Mets tonight. The San Diego Padres came to play tonight and were able to generate runs fairly easily. Jeremy Hefner started for the Mets and really pitched well before a 68 minute rain delay. After that delay Hefner really struggled to limit the damage. Hefner went 3.2 innings allowing six runs on nine hits. This start really needs to be excused simply because Hefner was in rhythm and after the delay he really struggled to get back to throwing excellent pitches. Manny Acosta gave up three runs and he really struggled in his two innings of work. Acosta continues to struggle to put hitters away. Countless times tonight Acosta was able to get two strikes, but most of the time served up a hit once he got there. Acosta needs to get back on track quickly otherwise he will be gone from the team. Robert Carson also pitched in this game and he also gave up two runs. The bullpen did alright considering the circumstances. This was a very tough night for the Mets and the fans. Now the Mets have to refocus and try to get the game tomorrow. The Mets fall to the Padres 11-5 tonight in a very empty Citi Field.
