The New York Mets will continue their series against the Houston Astros tonight at Minute Maid Park. The Mets are coming off a lost to the Astros and are looking to get revenge tonight.
Jon Niese will get the start tonight as he looks to continue pitching well this season. Niese this season is 2-0 and is looking very dominate through the early part of the season. Tonight Niese will go up against a lineup that he has never faced and that could be a good thing or a bad thing. In three lifetime starts against the Astros Niese has a 1-1 record with a 1.80 ERA. Shockingly Niese hasn’t allowed more than two runs against the Astros in three games. Tonight Niese will have to stay under control and command his pitches. The Mets need Niese to keep the Astros off the board and limit any amount of hits.
For the offense Kirk Nieuwenhuis continues to show maturity in this early season. Last night Nieuwenhuis tied the game up with a two-run single and was able to hit a hanging slider. His strikeout total is high, but he is still being productive in his time on the field. This is the one person that has really impressed early on this season. Tonight Nieuwenhuis will continue to be the leadoff hitter and with that he should get a couple of hits tonight.
This game will be televised on SNY at 8:05 PM and will be on WFAN 660 AM. The Mets are looking to get back on the winning track. They are in a solid position to get the job done tonight. Let’s go Mets!
