Pre-Game: Mets vs. Phillies 7:05 PM

The New York Mets will face the Philadelphia Phillies tonight in the second game of a three game series. The Mets won last night in a very nice fashion. Newly called up rookie Jordany Valdespin had his first major league hit and that was a three-run homerun in the ninth inning to give the Mets a 5-2 lead. The Mets would then get Frank Francisco to close out the game and seal the win.

Tonight Miguel Batista will make his second start of the season. Right now Batista is scheduled for one start, but if he can do well he may get another chance. Batista has pitched in 10 games this season. His previous start was a disaster as he allowed 6 runs in 3.2 innings. That game Batista had nothing working for him and he also struggled with control as he walked three batters. Tonight Batista has to have control and help keep the Phillies from getting hits. The Mets need another nice effort from their starters and tonight is a night that Batista can try to get the team another win.

The Mets offense will have to take on Joe Blanton tonight. Blanton is coming off a complete game shutout of the Atlanta Braves in which he only allowed three hits. Tonight the Mets will likely see a very tough pitcher in Blanton and will have to stay patient to get the job done. Blanton has struggled against the Mets over the last couple of seasons, but the Mets have to still play hard and execute. The Phillies had a two run advantage for a while last night, but the Mets were able to fight back to win the game.

Tonight Jordany Valdespin will get the start at shortstop and hopefully he can continue to swing the bat well. His confidence is through the roof right now. The Mets have to hope that this kid can continue to play well and help get the team wins. The concern for the Mets has to be Ike Davis who is still struggling despite having an excellent series against the Rockies. Davis continues to be out in front on pitches, which is making it hard for him to get hits. Opposing pitchers are all throwing breaking balls to him and he hasn’t been able to adjust. Tonight would be a nice night for Davis to get back on track and make strides to getting back to being a power hitter.

This game will be televised on SNY at 7:05 PM and will be on radio station WFAN 660 AM. Let’s go Mets!
