Cardinals avoid sweep; Beat Mets 5-4

The New York Mets couldn’t get the series sweep this afternoon, as Jon Rauch gave up a two–run home run that the Mets couldn’t come back from. The Mets played really good today, but never could get the lead. The Mets bullpen hasn’t been strong for a period of time and there has to be other options. This unit has struggled countless times to either hold a lead or keep the other team off the board. Today was a prime example of the struggles the bullpen has.

Dillon Gee pitched pretty well today despite allowing three runs (two earned). Gee had all of his pitches working today as he was able to strikeout 8 batters. His secondary pitches were really good today and he tried his best to keep the team in the game. The Mets offense really helped Gee though his start because every time he would allow a run the Mets would comeback and score for him. It came down to the bullpen, but they were unable to close out the game. Today the Mets fell to the Cardinals 5-4 and now will face the Washington Nationals tomorrow night.
