The Chicago Cubs defeated the New York Mets for the second time this series and can get the sweep when the two teams play tomorrow night. This game was just bad from all standpoints. Both teams struggled at times, but the Mets struggled at the wrong time.
Dillon Gee had a very uneasy performance tonight as he went five innings allowing four runs on nine hits. Gee has stretches of excellent pitching, but tonight wasn’t his best game. Gee had control issues at times and really made his job tougher by allowing base runners.
The Mets offense started out great as they scored two runs in the second inning, but they would just get one run for the rest of the game. David Wright went hitless tonight, thus ending his 15 game hitting streak.
It is also worth noting that Ike Davis was ejected from the game after arguing with the first base umpire. Davis made contact with the umpire which could be leading to a suspension, but nothing has been made at this point. Davis was rightfully correct in that he did make the tag on the base runner that would have been an out.
Tonight the Mets continued their losing ways and have to somehow get back on track tomorrow night.
