Mets avoid sweep; Beat Nationals 3-1

Today the New York Mets walked away with a nice win over the Washington Nationals. This game was really surrounded by the spectacular pitching of R.A. Dickey. This was a very nice game for Dickey who didn’t allow a run in this game. After his 7.1 innings of scoreless baseball today, Dickey now has 24.2 scoreless innings streak under his belt. This has been an amazing year for Dickey who is now 9-1 and is the first pitcher in the majors to record nine wins this season. Dickey allowed four hits and walked two in this game. The Mets also saw Dickey strikeout eight of the Nationals hitters today. This start today wasn’t easy for Dickey, but he was able to get through the inning with smart pitches and excellent defense.

Lucas Duda hit his 10th homerun in the 5th inning today. That homerun drove in two runs as the Mets jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Duda continues to find his pitches. This season Duda is showing that he has grown as a hitter and is making the adjustments to find himself pitches to hit. Not only did Duda have success today, but Daniel Murphy broke a 0 for 19 slump with two hits today. Murphy drove in a run with a RBI single in the seventh inning for one of his two hits. Murphy finally swung at hittable pitches and was able to get some nice hits.

Frank Francisco gave up a solo homerun to Ryan Zimmerman in the ninth inning to start that inning, but was able to get through the inning. This was the first win in three games for the Mets and they seem to be back on track. This game today proved that the Mets need excellent starting pitching to get through games and today Dickey was able to give the team a very nice start. The Mets defeated the Nationals 3-1 to avoid the series sweep and improve to 32-26 on the year.
