The New York Mets were finally able to get back on track today when they defeated the Chicago Cubs 17-1. The Mets offense was extra potent today as they clubbed four homeruns today. Daniel Murphy had two homeruns, Ike Davis had a three-run homerun, and Scott Hairston hit a grand slam. This was the best the Mets offense looked in a while and today they finally were able to get the job done at the plate.
Jon Niese started for the Mets and he really was able to get excellent run support that allowed him to get into a groove to get through his outing. Niese went seven innings allowing one run on eight hits. Niese really was able to get outs and keep his offense on the field. Hopefully Niese can take this outing and build upon it for his next outing.
WP: Jon Niese (6-3)
LP: Jeff Samardzija (5-7)
