Mets defeat Cardinals 6-1

The New York Mets continued their excellent pitching on Sunday night. Jon Niese started for the Mets and really dominated from the start. Going six innings Niese was able to allow just six hits and struck out 10 batters. This was a very nice showing from Niese tonight. He used his curveball more tonight and that really worked for him. Tonight Niese showed that he could be a very good pitcher if he would use all of his pitches. This season Niese has shown major improvement in his pitch selection. This start tonight can really build some confidence in Niese.

The offense for the Mets continue to get runs early in games and tonight was no different. Lucas Duda started the scoring for the Mets with an RBI single in the opening inning. But he would not be the offensive star, instead that star was Kirk Nieuwenhuis. He had a career-high three RBI’s in this game including a two-run homerun in the 4th inning. This was a very nice showing by the Mets tonight who really have all of the confidence in the world right now. Another night, another win for the Mets.
