The New York Mets defeated the Baltimore Orioles tonight behind a very well pitched game by R.A. Dickey. Dickey was outstanding tonight as he threw a complete game shutout of the Orioles tonight. Dickey not only went the entire game, but he was able to allow just one hit. This was the second time in a row that Dickey has had a complete game one hitter. Dickey is just pitching perfect right now and tonight had a career high with 13 strikeouts. This was a very nice pitching performance by Dickey who dominated the strike zone yet again. Right now Dickey has to be the best pitcher in the National League. Dickey leads the league with 11 wins and continues to give the Mets excellent starts. Dickey becomes the first pitcher in the National League to have back to back one hitters since Jim Tobin did it in 1944.
The offense needed one big hit to win this game and Ike Davis did that in the 6th inning as he hit the first grand slam of his career. Davis continues to prove that he is finally out of his slump. Tonight he drove the ball and looked as if he saw the ball much better. The Mets will be a much better team with Davis hitting the way he is hitting. Tonight the Mets played hard behind another excellent pitching performance by R.A. Dickey. This was another great game by the Mets and a win that should give them tons of momentum.
