Mets earn sweep of Rays; Win 9-6

The New York Mets completed the sweep of the Tampa Bay Rays this afternoon. The Mets continued their hot hitting today as they scored 9 runs today. In this series the Mets showed that their offense is back on track as multiple guys broke out of slumps this series. Today Kirk Nieuwenhuis had a day to remember as he clubbed two homeruns and drove in three RBI’s. He really hit the ball well today and is making a case to be with this team for the rest of the season. His hitting today was spectacular and he really helped the Mets get this win.

Pitching wise Johan Santana really struggled today and fell behind on hitters countless times. Santana was able to go just five innings today throwing 96 pitches. This was a very tough start for Santana today as he continues to struggle after he threw a no-hitter just a couple of weeks ago. The Mets have to be concerned about his results and his lack of command over the last two games. Today Santana walked four batters and his walks have been steadily climbing over his last few starts. Today Santana received the win, but was lucky the team was able to overcome his struggles.

David Wright collected three hits today and really saw the ball really well. His contributions really gave the Mets and added punch offensively the Rays were unable to overcome. The Mets won this game from their hitting, but the bullpen almost gave up the game. The Mets were lucky to get out of this game with a win despite the struggles from Miguel Batista. Frank Francisco received his 16th save of the season after he was able to get out of bases loaded jam. The Mets would win this game 9-6 and sweep the series against the Rays.
