Mets get past Yankees; Win 6-4

The New York Mets defeated the New York Yankees tonight in front of a packed Citi Field crowd. The Mets came out strong and never trailed in this game. Ike Davis had the biggest hit for the Mets tonight when he clubbed a three-run homer right off the glove of Nick Swisher. That homerun really gave the Mets the momentum to get through the game. The Yankees did make it interesting, but the Mets were able to hang on to get the 6-4 win.

Jon Niese started this game and the only thing he did wrong was allow two homeruns. One came in the 6th inning to Alex Rodriguez and the other one went to Andruw Jones in the 7th inning. However, Niese was able to get through this inning making just those two mistakes. Niese had five strikeouts and allowed eight hits tonight.

The biggest storyline came from Frank Francisco who called the Yankee hitters “chickens” before the game. Francisco did however get through his save opportunity allowing a hit and a walk. Francisco showed his competitive nature before the game and the Mets really helped back up his words. Francisco continues to get saves despite his struggles this season.

WP: Jon Niese (5-3)
