Mets power their way past Rays; Win 11-2

The New York Mets were looked to snap a three game losing streak tonight when they faced the Tampa Bay Rays. The Mets jumped out in front early in the first inning as they scored a run on a error. The Rays would take a 2-1 lead, but the Mets were able to fight back and take the lead. Jordany Valdespin had one of his best games of the season tonight as he drove in 4 RBI’s on two hits. Valdespin had a clutch two run single to give the Mets the lead in the 5th inning that at the time put the Mets up 3-2. Then in the seventh inning Valdespin drove in a run with a RBI double. Valdespin came up with big hits tonight and hopefully his confidence can continue to grow while he has an opportunity with this team.

Chris Young started for the Mets and really had a nice solid outing. Young gave up nine hits, but allowed just two runs. Young was able to get outs when he had to and that really got him through this outing. The Mets were forced to go to their bullpen earlier than expected, but everyone in the bullpen was able to get the job done. Young threw 106 pitches in 5.2 innings tonight.

The real story for the Mets tonight was that of Ike Davis. In the seventh inning of tonight’s game, Davis would hit a three-run homerun. This was the sixth homerun for Davis this season and that homerun would break the game open. That homerun was really nice to see simply because Davis was able to get a pitch that he could hit and he drove it out of play. Now that Davis has that homerun he should have tons of confidence right now.

The offense for the Mets really showed up tonight as they were able to finally have a performance to build upon. Frank Francisco pitched the ninth inning and was able to close the door on the Rays in a non-save situation. The bullpen was able to get the job done tonight as they held the Rays hitless in 3.1 innings tonight. This hopefully can inspire the bullpen to pitch the same way in hopes of closing out more games for the team. The Mets won tonight 11-2 and finally got a win.
