Mets sweep Orioles; Win 4-3

The New York Mets defeated the Baltimore Orioles tonight, earning the three game sweep. This was another excellent pitching performance by the Mets who have been getting excellent starting pitching in this series. Tonight was the same as Dillon Gee gave the Mets a nice quality start. Gee gave up a two run homer, but still was able to get through this outing. Allowing just three hits in 7.1 innings, Gee pitching a very nice game. Tonight Gee had command of all of his pitches and really got through the Orioles lineup with ease. As he went further in the game Gee seemed to tire which led to his departure in the 8th inning. Gee did tie a career-high with 9 strikeouts today and really made it looked easy at certain points in this game.

Bobby Parnell came on in relief of Gee and he would allow one hit, but would get the final two outs of the 8th inning. Frank Francisco looked to close out this game in the 9th inning. Francisco would allow two hits and two walks, but would get through it. This was a very uneasy save for Francisco who allowed a walk to force in a run. Francisco continues to struggle, but somehow gets through his appearance.

The Mets collected nine hits tonight and really had clutch hits mid-way through this game. The Mets had a pair of ground-rule doubles that drove in runs. Scott Hairston and David Wright combined for five hits and two RBI’s. Both continue to get hits for this team and tonight they put on a nice hitting display.

This series the Mets were finally able to put together their pitching and hitting and that resulted in three straight wins. The Mets now have an off day before starting a three game series against the Yankees. Tonight the Mets won 4-3 in a nail-biting finish.
