The New York Mets were looking for a win tonight, but were unable to get the job done. After falling behind by three runs early in the game, the Mets tried their best to get runs, but never could get the lead. In two occasions tonight the Mets were able to come within a run, but they couldn’t get over the hump. Their offense was cold the entire night and despite their three runs they only had three hits. They looked a step slower the entire night as they made two errors. Those errors all came from Daniel Murphy as he failed to snag two groundballs. Murphy is really struggling on both sides of the field and maybe he needs a day off.
Jeremy Hefner went six innings allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits. Hefner gave up a three-run homerun in the first inning, but after that really settled in nicely and kept the Mets in the game. Overall Hefner has shown that he could be a successful pitcher with time. He pitches really complement each other well. He just has to learn to limit the mistakes and make smart pitches in big situations.
For now the Mets will have to regroup and come out tomorrow afternoon looking to get the win. Tonight the Mets lost 5-3 and now have dropped three straight games.
WP: Edwin Jackson (2-3)
LP: Jeremy Hefner (1-3)
