The New York Mets had another spectacular performance by R.A. Dickey tonight. A complete game one hitter tonight was the final result of a very happy night for the Mets. Tonight Dickey broke the scoreless innings streak set by Jerry Koosman at 31.2 innings. Tonight Dickey was able to set the new record for the Mets as he notched 32.2 scoreless innings. Dickey continues to show that he has taken the knuckleball to new heights. His dominance continues into every start and his strikeouts to walk ratio is staggering. Tonight Dickey had 12 strikeouts against a very solid Tampa Bay offensive. This night will be remembered simply because Dickey was able to dominate the Rays and set a Met record in tonight’s outing. Dickey also became the fist pitcher in the Major Leagues to record ten wins tonight.
The offense for the Mets continued to score tonight as they plated nine runs. The Rays did squeak out a run in the ninth inning to stop Dickey’s scoreless streak, but none the less the Mets were still able to win 9-1. The Mets will go for the sweep tomorrow afternoon against the Rays in what will not be an easy game for the Mets.
WP: R.A. Dickey (10-1)
LP: David Price (8-4)
