The Cincinnati Reds were able to defeat the New York Mets tonight at Citi Field. This was the first lost for the Mets in their last three games. Tonight Dillon Gee started for the Mets and he really struggled to get through this outing. Gee did go six innings allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits. Gee allowed two homeruns that would result in a very unpleasant outing. Gee did get into a groove late in this outing, but the damage was already done.
The Mets did lose Jason Bay to injury tonight after he crashed into the wall, hitting the back of his head on the left field wall. Bay left in the second inning under his own power, but was visibly dizzy and staggered a bit as he walked. This is a huge set back for Bay, who looked as if he may be getting some power back.
Kirk Nieuwenhuis homered for the second consecutive game and also made a very nice defensive play before hitting that homerun. Nieuwenhuis continues to impress and his ability on both sides of the field are making him very important to the team. Ike Davis had a hit and continues to show signs of being out of his slump. Collectively the Mets were able to just record four hits. Scott Hairston drove in two runs as he connected on a two-run homer that at the time bought the Mets within three runs. But the Mets wouldn’t be able comeback and they lost this game 7-3.
WP: Bronson Arroyo (3-4)
