The New York Mets were utterly mishandled tonight against the New York Yankees. Johan Santana was the starter for the Mets and tonight wasn’t a nice night for him. Santana allowed six runs on seven hits tonight. What was real alarming was the homeruns he gave up. He made mistakes that the Yankee hitters were ready for and they really took it to him tonight. Allowing a career-high four homeruns Santana couldn’t deliver good pitches. In the third inning the Yankees went back-to-back-to-back with solo homeruns that really broke the game open.
Offensively the Met really couldn’t get anything going. Collectively the Mets were able to get just get two hits. This game was really bad from the Mets standpoint. They will continue their series against the Yankees tomorrow, before closing out the series on Sunday night.
Elvin Ramirez really struggled in his relief appearance today. Ramirez walked four batters and allowed three runs on three hits. Ramirez has really struggled during his time with the Mets and tonight wasn’t any different. His pitches were all over the place tonight, which really ran up his pitch count. Tonight in 1.2 innings Ramirez threw 49 pitches. He was only able to throw 21 strikes and really struggled tonight. The Mets lost tonight 9-1 and really never showed any chance of winning this game. Lucas Duda drove in a run in the ninth inning on a RBI double. This was a tough night, but the Mets have to comeback from this and get the next two.
