The New York Mets received a very great start tonight from recently called up Matt Harvey. In his very first major league game, Harvey struck out 11 batters putting himself into the Mets record books. Harvey broke a record set by Tom Seaver, when he struck out eight batters in his major league debut. Harvey went 5.1 innings allowing no runs on three hits. Harvey did walk three batters, but each time was able to get out of jams. Harvey also had two hits tonight including a double in his first at-bat.
Scott Hairston drove in two early runs on a two-run double in the first inning. Hairston would go on to have three hits including two doubles and a single.
Those early runs would be enough for the Mets bullpen who would give up just one run and one hit. This was a very nice performance by the bullpen tonight who have had their struggles all season.
Bobby Parnell walked two batters in the ninth inning, but he was able to get the job done.
Tonight the Mets finally snapped their six game losing streak as they defeated the D-Backs 3-1.
WP: Matt Harvey (1-0)
LP: Wade Miley (11-6)
SV: Bobby Parnell (3)
