The New York Mets continued their winning ways tonight against the Philadelphia Phillies. The offense for the Mets really took off tonight, leading them past the Phillies. Daniel Murphy had an outstanding night at the plate as he tied a career high with four hits. Murphy had a triple, two doubles, and a single in five plate appearances tonight. Murphy finally seems like he is out of his slump and right now is the hottest hitter on the Mets roster.
Jon Niese started for the Mets and pitched one of his better games tonight. Niese went eight innings for the first time this season allowing just one run on three hits. This season Niese has been very consistent in trying to keep his team in the game. Tonight Niese was able to keep pitches down in the zone and that resulted in tons of ground balls and easy outs.
David Wright tonight became the first player in Mets history to have 10 or more homeruns in nine seasons as a Met. Wright hit his 10th homerun in the 6th inning sending the Mets up 9-1.
This game tonight had the most people ever in Citi Field’s history. According to the team there were 42,516 people in the stadium tonight. The Mets will continue their series tomorrow afternoon as they try to beat the Phillies again.
WP: Jon Niese (7-3)
LP: Vance Worley (4-5)
