Nationals defeat Mets 5-4

The New York Mets had two opportunities to win this game tonight, but were unable to do so and lost their fourth straight loss.

The Mets received an excellent start from Jon Niese tonight. Niese went seven innings allowing one run on three hits. He was very good tonight and really pitched well.

The bullpen continues to be an issue for this team. Twice in this game the Mets had a save chance and each time the bullpen blew it.

Jordany Valdespin had the biggest hit for the Mets tonight, when he was able to drive in three runs on a three-run homerun. Valdespin continues to hit in the clutch and tonight he proved that yet again.

The Mets lost this game on a wild pitch by Pedro Beato that eluded Josh Thole.

This was a very tough loss for the Mets who continue to just lose ground in the division. They will have to start winning immediately, otherwise their season will be in jeopardy.
