The New York Mets won possibly their toughest game to date as they were able to comeback and beat the Phillies tonight in walk-off fashion. This team fought hard tonight just to win this game. They were up against the Phillies best pitchers and they were still able to get the job done.
David Wright was spectacular tonight as he led the team to the win. Wright went 3 for 5 tonight with a homerun, a single, and four RBI’s. Wright stepped up as a leader tonight and really gave the Mets some nice at-bats. Tonight Wright continued his great season and is proving that he is still a superstar player.
R.A. Dickey struggled today, but was able to get off the hook. Dickey went seven strong innings allowing five runs on eleven hits. Dickey didn’t have his best knuckleball, but the team was able to pick him up on the offensive end. Dickey did have seven strikeouts in this game despite not having his best stuff.
The effort of the bullpen cannot go unnoticed. Trailing by a run the Mets bullpen was able to get the job done. Jon Rauch, Tim Byrdak, Pedro Beato, and Bobby Parnell all came in and got the job done. This was a very nice win for this team.
Scott Hairston continues his hot hitting as he hit a solo homerun in the second inning. Not only did he have a homerun, but he made an amazing throw to nab a runner at the plate. That huge defensive play kept the Mets down a run and that had to be the play of this game.
The Mets won tonight with grit and toughness. They never got down on themselves and were able to power through to get the win.
WP: Bobby Parnell (2-1)
