The New York Mets fell to the Miami Marlins tonight 4-2. The Mets had a very disappointing night at the plate stranding eight batters in the course of four innings. With the bases loaded in the fourth inning the Mets opted to let Jon Niese hit and that resulted in a simple out that really took any momentum the Mets had away.
Niese started tonight and really couldn’t stay away from the big inning. In the fourth inning Niese allowed four runs to score on three base hits in that inning. Niese commanded his pitches early, but his curveball was missing and the Marlin hitters took advantage. Niese did go six innings allowing four runs on eight hits.
Tonight the bullpen really did a nice job in getting outs. In three innings of work the Mets bullpen only allowed a hit and struck out three batters. This performance will hopefully carry into the rest of the series.
Daniel Murphy hit his first homerun in Citi Field tonight a solo shot in the 5th inning. Murphy isn’t known for his power, but tonight he really put a charge into the ball.
The Mets will continue this series tomorrow night as they try to get back on track.
