Mets beat Giants 9-1; Earning series win over Giants

The New York Mets won their second game in a row today as they defeated the San Francisco Giants 9-1. The Mets came out early with their offense and jumped on every opportunity. The way the Mets scored in this game was reminiscent of how they scored earlier this season.

Chris Young started for the Mets and would pitch possibly his best game of the season. Young went seven innings allowing one runs on just four hits. Young really was able to get the Giants to pop up most of his pitches and that forced the Giants to get impatient at the plate. Young struck out four batters today and really showed that he is starting to get back to pitching well.

Ronny Cedeno stole the show today as he went 3 for 5 with five RBI’s. Cedeno tied a career high with those five RBI’s as he really gave the Mets a nice offensive spark. Cedeno also had two doubles which now gives him nine doubles on the year. This performance today really showed that Cedeno could be very important against left handed pitching.

Offensively the Mets really made a nice adjustment today and were able to get hits when they needed them. Jason Bay drove in two RBI’s today on a single in the first inning. Bay had just the one hit, but his only hit gave the Mets an early lead they would never relinquish.

This was the first winning series by the Mets since before the all-star break. They were able to beat the Giants in this series with excellent offense and very solid starting pitching. The bullpen continues to be an issue, but in this series they were protected nicely by their offense.

The Mets will start a three game series against the San Diego Padres tomorrow night as they look to continue winning.
