Mets fall to Giants 4-1

The New York Mets played the San Francisco Giants tonight looking to earn their third straight win.

The Mets started Matt Harvey as he looked for his second career win. Harvey would pitch another great game, but a bad defensive mistake really cost him a chance at a win tonight. Ruben Tejada had a perfect chance to convert a double play, but Tejada threw the ball away costing Harvey two runs. Harvey allowed three runs (two earned) in six innings of play tonight.

Harvey really used his secondary pitches more in this start. Harvey struck out seven batters and walked three batters. This was a very nice start by Harvey, but a miscue defensively really kept him from getting a win tonight.

The Mets offensively scored one run in the second inning and that would be the only run they would get. Despite having the bases loaded in the seventh inning, the Mets were unable to drive in a run. In fact David Wright was at the plate, but would strike out looking to end the inning.

Ramon Ramirez gave up a run in the 8th inning which pushed the Giants lead to 4-1. Ramirez continues to struggle at times and tonight was another example.

The Mets had opportunities tonight, but just couldn’t get the big hit. Matt Harvey suffered his first loss of his major league career. The Mets will continue their series against the Giants tomorrow night as they look to get back to winning.
