The New York Mets won a very big game tonight. They were able to get two early runs and somehow held on to the lead to win the game.
Jon Niese was brilliant in this game today. Niese went seven strong innings allowing just one run on three hits. This was a very nice start for Niese who has struggled recently. Having five strikeouts and two walks, Niese really pitched well tonight. His secondary pitches were much better and he really used his curveball to his advantage.
The offense for the Mets started early as Ruben Tejada started the game with a lead-off homerun. Tejada really connected on a pitch to drive that ball out of the park. That was the first homerun of the season for Tejada and it was nice to see that early in the game.
The Mets really struggled with runners in scoring position tonight. Going 1 for 13 with runners in scoring position the Mets were somehow able to get through this game. Jordany Valdespin drove in the final run for the Mets in this game on a fielders choice that scored Josh Thole.
Believe it or not, but the Mets actually had the bases loaded four times in this game and were never able to get home a run. This was a very bad offensive game, but the Mets were still able to get the win.
Bobby Parnell had a nice 1-2-3 save tonight earning himself the fourth save of the season. Parnell was still missing the strike zone, but was able to get the Giants to roll over on his pitches.
The Mets will conclude this series tomorrow afternoon as they look for the series win.
