Nationals beat Mets 6-4

The New York Mets fell to the Washington Nationals tonight in a very tough game.

Johan Santana continued to struggle tonight. After retiring the first nine batters he faced, Santana struggled from that point on. Two homeruns would be the demise of Santana tonight as he gave up a total of six runs. He would last five innings having just four strikeouts. This was a very discouraging start by Santana despite hitting 91 mph on the radar gun. His control was there in the beginning, but he would fall behind hitters and would lose the movement on his pitches. This game marks the fifth straight start that Santana has given up six runs or more.

The Mets did score four runs today including the first hit and homerun from Kelly Shoppach. Daniel Murphy drove in two runs in the first innings while Ronny Cedeno drove in a run on a fielders choice.

This series will continue tomorrow as the Mets look to tie the series up. But tonight they really came up short in getting the win. Johan Santana is pitching very poor and that resulted in a loss tonight.
